The following is continually updated information about the status of known issues with Office 365 and Office 2016 at Indiana University.
Sometimes the solution for this is to download the latest update to Outlook or Office for Mac. However, since no updates are available yet for Office 2016 for Mac, there’s not much you can do until Microsoft issue one. If you haven’t already, you can try compacting the PST file by going to Account Settings – Data Files and Compact Files.
- In order to activate office we were able to use a serializer.pkg from microsoft to license / activate Office for Mac 2016 and this.pkg has worked up until 16.16. Today, I noticed that updating to 16.17 via our normal method prompts the user to activate MS Office again and our serializer.pkg isn't working.
- Huge props to Microsoft for a very, very well done upgrade. Office 2016 feels like a completely new and very Mac-friendly application suite that might just replace Pages, Numbers, Keynote and the rest of the Apple office suite on our Mac systems here in the office. Not to mention on our Windows systems!
- Connecting to Office 365 services using Office 2016 for Mac isn't supported after October 13, 2020. That's because Office 2016 for Mac reaches end of support on that date. Microsoft Office 2016 for.
- On the File tab, select Account. Note: In Outlook, select Office Account. On the right side, select Update Options, and then select Enable Updates. If you are asked whether you want to let Microsoft Office make changes to your computer, select Yes. Automatic updates managed by Group Policy.

Most current packages for Office for Mac
The following table lists the most current packages for the Office suite and for the individual applications. The Office suite includes all the individual applications, such as Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. All packages are 64-bit only. The build date is listed in parentheses, in a YYMMDD format, after the version number. The install package is used if you don't have the application already installed, while the update package is used to update an existing installation.
